APS Opens Global Warming Debate

The American Physical Society, an organization representing nearly 50,000 physicists, has reversed its stance on climate change and is now proclaiming that many of its members disbelieve in human-induced global warming. The APS is also sponsoring public debate on the validity of global warming science. The leadership of the society had previously called the evidence for global warming "incontrovertible."
In a posting to the APS forum, editor Jeffrey Marque explains,"There is a considerable presence within the scientific community of people who do not agree with the IPCC conclusion that anthropogenic CO2 emissions are very probably likely to be primarily responsible for global warming that has occurred since the Industrial Revolution."
The APS is opening its debate with the publication of a paper by Lord Monckton of Brenchley, which concludes that climate sensitivity – the rate of temperature change a given amount of greenhouse gas will cause -- has been grossly overstated by IPCC modeling. A low sensitivity implies additional atmospheric CO2 will have little effect on global climate.

Consensus Crash
The noise you hear in the background is that edifice called consensus crashing down on Al Gore's head. While this publication's opening up to debate hasn't changed anything yet, it may help to provide the APS with enough data and justification to formally change its position regarding AGW. There are a great many studies that have never seen the light of day, at least as far as the IPCC is concerned, that could appear in this journal and serve to undermine conventional thinking.

I too was pleased to see what appeared to be APS' reversal of a policy based on what I belive to be bad science - but if you visit the APS website (aps.org) you will find that the APS has reasserted their belief in Global Warming a la the IPCC. What has ACTUALLY happened is that Lord Monckton has submitted an editorial piece that is gaining some attention.
The APS is still firmly on the GW bandwagon.

Arguement Check
Simply because some people disagree with a theory does not imply the theory is true or not true. Heck you can find scientists to support almost any theory you want, you can find scientists that disagree with even well established theories like general relativity and quantum mechanics, in either case it does not completely invalidate the theories.
No theory is perfect including General relativity and quantum mechanics yet both provide adequate approximations within their realms of applicability. Same goes for global warming theory, within specified limits it gives us adequate approximation to past, present and future climate.
IN any case if you believe that arguements are so compelling then they should stand up to scrutiny, tell them to actual climate scientists:

Non Global Warming By Man
It is so interesting to debate the issue of Global Warming, and to negate statement made by Gore in his failed motion picture. Truth always wins out. Science has shown through core samples that the earth goes through cool and warm cycles. We just finished a 22 year SUN SPOT CYCLE, we are on the downward 11 year cycle. Skeptics state that the Oceans are warming, yet surface air temperature have very little to do with sub surface ocean temperatures. Science has proven that the ocean slight rise in temperature is due PRIMARILY to volcanic sub surface activity. A NATURAL OCCURRENCE.
Certain Global Warming Fanatics state that the earth ground temperature is raising due to surface air temperatures, yet well water temperature over the years remain almost constant. They claim that their computer models show a dangerous rise in air temperature and that the oceans will rise 100 feet and flood all of the costal plain. However this is all FALSE. Science knows that if all the floating ice were to melt the sea level would drop. If all the ice in the world were to melt it could ONLY CAUSE the OCEAN to rise some 6 inches.
So Global Warming is occurring, NOT BY MAN and NOT BY THE EXTREMES that Environmentalist CLAIM, but by a Natural Cyclical Event.
